Editor’s Note: January 2019

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Happy New Year! At the risk of sounding cliche, we are excited about the new prospects this year has in store for us. New year, new magazine to run, new people to meet. This issue has been in the making for a long time—before we even dreamed that the Women’s Journal could be ours.

I don’t know about you, but New Year’s resolutions aren’t my cup of tea, so to speak. By the end of January (or sooner), I realize how miserably I’ve failed at keeping up with my resolutions. Last year, I was introduced to the concept of “power words” in lieu of traditional resolutions. The difference? Rather than setting goals that only those with the greatest willpower can hope to accomplish, you pick one word that you want to focus on in all areas of your life.

My power word for 2019 is CONNECT. This year, I will spend more time connecting with family and friends. I will connect my personal interests together for projects that will bring me personal fulfillment. I will connect with local business owners to make our goals for the Women’s Journal a reality. I will connect with people and groups in my area to become more connected with my community.

What word will lead you through 2019? Pick something that has meaning to you, then put it on display so you don’t forget to focus on it. Write it on your bathroom mirror, get a bracelet charm with the word on it, make a special sign to hang in your kitchen–make it something you see and think about daily. Check out the PCWJ Facebook page to share your power word. There is power through accountability!

Best wishes,
Amy Daniels
