Woman to Watch – Christina Weeks
Christina Weeks is originally from Snow Hill, NC. She graduated from East Carolina University with her Masters in Molecular Biology/Biotechnology in 2000 and accepted a position as a Senior Assistant Scientist at Paradigm Genetics in RTP, NC. In 2001 she and her husband decided to move back to Eastern NC, and she accepted a position as a Research Technician III in the Biochemistry Department at the Brody School of Medicine in Greenville NC. She began teaching Anatomy and Physiology part-time at Pitt Community College in the Fall of 2001, and accepted a full-time position as the Biotechnology Department Chair in the summer of 2002, a position she currently holds today. When she took the department chair position, it was a completely new department and a new curriculum for the college. She had to build the AAS Biotechnology Degree Program from scratch, write grants to obtain funding for equipment and supplies, create partnerships with local biotechnology industry, and recruit students to enroll in this new biotechnology program. Over the last 18 years, the program, department, and biotechnology student population has grown and evolved significantly under the direction of Christina Weeks.
